Philly Improv Theater is dedicated to teaching improv for a wide array of people and growing talent for the metro-Philadelphia improv scene through our extensive class offerings. At the center of our effort is the 8-week classes in our 4 level core curriculum. Here's how the core curriculum works:

LEVEL 1 - "Intro to Sketch Writing": This is the place to start if you have never written sketch comedy before, or have dabbled in the past.  Over eight weeks, students will watch and discuss a variety of sketches, learn about different sketch formats, and write and workshop their own material.  The focus in Level 1 is on developing each student's individual voice and comic sensibility.  The class will conclude with established comedians performing a staged reading of students' favorite sketches.

LEVEL 2 - "Collaborative Sketch Writing": Moving beyond concepts introducted in our Level 1 Sketch Writing class students will continue to expand their skills through close work with an instructor, workshoping with their peers, and the added challenge of learning how to write collaboratively.
